VHS Response to Health and Sport Committee Call for Evidence

March 3, 2017

The Health and Sport Committee’s call for evidence is looking into the engagement between Integration Authorities and third sector, patients and carers. Our response is based on roundtable events we are holding with Audit Scotland and a number of third sector organisations, since October 2015. The first Audit Scotland report noted that the role of the third sector is unclear in the integration process and many organisations at the roundtable events said that the third sector and other non-voting partners are not included consistently and meaningfully by Integration Authorities. It is clear from the most recent update from Audit Scotland in October last year that the situation is still as inconsistent and varies depending on the Integrated Joint Board and Health and Social Care Partnerships. From the patient and carers perspective there has been discussion on the varying level of support they receive as part of an Integrated Joint Board. There is also a lack of public awareness of H&SCI and the impact it may have on people’s lives, this leads us to question the reality of co-production on the ground.
